Rosetrees and Cancer Research UK interdisciplinary workshop:
Tackling drug resistance in cancer

31 January 2024
Hilton York

Organised in partnership with Cancer Research UK and Rosetrees Trust

Workshop overview

Physics of Medicine are delighted to be partnering with Cancer Research UK to deliver a one-day workshop aiming to tackle drug resistance in cancer through interdisciplinary collaboration.

This interdisciplinary workshop seeks to engage attendees in developing new ideas and collaborations to address the problem of resistance to cancer therapies with clinicians and researchers working across different fields, including physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, and cancer.  We aim to facilitate discussions exploring the mechanisms driving the emergence of tumour resistance, approaches for monitoring drug resistance, and development of novel therapies which reduce, or circumvent, resistance.  The event will also provide a forum for the exchange and generation of ideas on how to effectively translate promising new approaches into the clinic.

Who should attend?

This event is open to clinicians and researchers at all career stages, who are working in physical sciences, maths, cancer, or other relevant disciplines in biology (such as developmental biologists) as well as those already working at the interface between these disciplines.  Attendees will have opportunities throughout the day to network with peers and join in collaborative discussions as part of the programme.

Organising Committee

  • Trevor Graham, Centre for Evolution and Cancer, The Institute of Cancer Research
  • Susan Short, School of Medicine, University of Leeds and Clinical Oncology, St. James’ University Hospital
  • Peter Weightman, Department of Physics, University of Liverpool
  • Alexis Barr, Institute of Clinical Sciences, Imperial College London
  • Claus Jorgensen, Systems Oncology, Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute
  • Stephen Smye, School of Medicine, University of Leeds
